"... At the end of my selection day I was positively surprised about the school in all ways, especially about its international character. I saw students from all over the world working together in teams, uniting different cultures. I have been moving around the world a lot with my parents and finished my high school at an international school; I knew that this was the perfect environment for me.

Favourite subject

My favourite subject in Hotelschool is Training in Management Skills. This subject is all about learning how to be a good manager. In many companies I see that managers often don’t know exactly how to ‘be’ a manager. At the Hotelschool you learn how to give and receive feedback in a good way, how to work in teams, how to be a good leader and how to give proper instructions. By learning all of these things and more, the school gives its students a good set of tools to one day be a good manager.

Internship

I did my first internship (after the first year) in the French West Indies; on the small but beautiful island Saint Barthelemy. This was a unique opportunity for me to explore that part of the world and to work in a luxurious resort. I worked at the Guanahani and Spa Resort, a member hotel of The Small Leading Hotels of the World. I worked as an all-round F&B employee, working in the kitchen, restaurants and in room-service. During a period of five months I learned a lot about F&B, but it was also a good way to get to know myself. I have the feeling that the experience of being far away from everyone and everything that you know made me a stronger person. I had the time of my life!
