Phases
Phase 1
Hospitality performance: "Doing the existing well"
In the first stage you will learn to develop the right attitude that will enable you to successfully complete the programme. During this stage you will learn skills like developing an attitude of hospitality, working in a team and to search for information. You will also become aware that you are responsible for your own learning process. And last but not least we teach you the basic skills associated with working at an operational level in hotels and restaurants. You will learn skills like cooking, serving and working at the Front Desk.
You also become acquainted with the basics theories of Hotel Management and learn to apply these in actual situations. For example, you work on a project to make an architectural design for your own hotel, or you design a website for your hotel.
This stage covers one and a half years, and includes an international placement period of approximately 20 weeks.
During the first year, all students taking the Bachelor course stay at the Skotel, our Training and Study Hotel. In the IFT programme, this first stage covers six weeks, during this period of time the students stay in the Skotel as well. In addition, the IFT programme does not include an international placement in this stage. The rent for the Skotel is part of the Hotelschool fees.
Phase 2
Tactical Hospitality Management: "Improving the existing"
In this stage we expect you to show more initiative. The programme concentrates on the various management domains: Marketing Management, Financial Management, Operations Management, Information Management.
In this stage you will be faced with problems like how to achieve higher quality, how to work more efficiently, how to achieve greater guest satisfaction. These problems require you to use all your management knowledge and the theoretical models that you were taught. The problems may occur in the restaurant, the kitchen, in the hotel or elsewhere.
This second stage covers one year.
Phase 3
Strategic Hospitality Management: "Searching for new combinations"
We live in a changing world. In the third stage of the programme you are challenged to react to the consequences of these changes. As a manager in the hospitality industry you need to find solutions to anticipated problems, to take advantage of possible opportunities and to implement any changes required. Creativity, innovation and strategy are the keywords in this process. The management domains return in this stage: Marketing, Finance, Operations, Personnel and Organisation and Information Management. You will find out that many of the problems you face cover more than one domain.
This stage covers 18 months, and includes a management placement of approximately 20 weeks at a renowned international company within the hospitality industry.
