Jeroen Steensma — Class of 2020
Director of Development & Feasibility | Cycas Hospitality
Based in Amsterdam, working across Europe
Jeroen is based in Amsterdam, but his work takes him across Europe. As Director of Development & Feasibility at Cycas Hospitality, he supports one of Europe’s leading hospitality management companies, helping grow their hotel portfolio region by region. His career began at Colliers, a global commercial real estate advisory firm, where he was in the middle of his final Hotelschool placement when the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
"It was a challenging time to be entering the hotel industry, especially with many organisations having a hiring freeze in place."

Despite the uncertainty, Colliers offered him a full-time role after graduation - an opportunity he still values deeply. "It’s a fantastic organisation where I learned a great deal from many talented professionals."
At Colliers, he focused primarily on hotel valuations, laying the foundation for the work he does today.
What was your proudest moment in your career so far?
"Never having experienced the Sunday blues."
What is your biggest takeaway from Hotelschool The Hague?
"From USALI*, RevPARs** and compsets to management expertise and people skills, I basically learned that hospitality is the best industry to work in."
*USALI: Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry
**RevPAR: Revenue per Available Room
What advice would you give to current students?
"Be pro-active and stay curious. With a bit of hard work and the right people around you, you can achieve a great deal – not just in your career, but in life."
