Outstanding student Klara Krueger wins the Johan Groothuizen Scholarship
Hotelschool The Hague (HTH) is proud to announce that the prestigious Johan Groothuizen Scholarship Award has been won by the dedicated student, Klara Krueger. This esteemed scholarship is awarded annually to recognise academic excellence and commend outstanding achievements in the field of hospitality.
Klara Krueger is 20 years old and was born in Germany. She was raised bilingually in the UK, speaking German and English. At the age of 8, she moved to Switzerland to learn French and started to learn Spanish as well. There, she attended an international school and completed her IB before she joined HTH in August 2021.
Klara has demonstrated proficiency in delivering impactful and engaging presentations throughout her first year of her studies. Her ability to captivate audiences, communicate complex ideas with clarity, and exhibit strong leadership qualities has made her a deserving recipient of this scholarship.
She completed her first year at HTH with a GPA of 87 for which she won the Scholarship Award. Currently, she is a second-year student and just came back from her internship which she completed as a Kitchen Trainee at Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection in Mexico. Since then, she has been joining one of HTH’s extracurricular activity clubs, the gastronomy club, and has been working as a student recruiter at HTH as a side job.
The scholarship Award is handed over by the Johan Groothuizen Foundation. Vice President of Marine Hotel Operations Johan Groothuizen has been awarded (45) years of service with Holland America Line. Groothuizen was responsible for the award-winning on-board services, including food operations, hotel and entertainment services. He joined the company in 1971 as a controller of various ships in the Holland America Line fleet. He later held the on-board positions of food and beverage manager and hotel manager before moving to the Seattle corporate office.
After his retirement in 2005, he became a member of Association DE LIJN whereas he became Vice President in 2018. Unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly in February 2020. To honour his outstanding services and dedication towards the maritime hospitality industry, the board of HAL & DE LIJN has decided to initiate a scholarship Award in his name.
What's Klara's advice for fellow HTH students who would be interested in winning the next Scholarship Award?
