Remco Groenhuijzen
I began my professional journey by completing a culinary education, where I developed a strong foundation in cooking techniques, kitchen management, and food preparation. After this I pursued further education at the Hotel School in Amsterdam. This allowed me to broaden my expertise, not only in the culinary field but also in hospitality management. During Covid time I studied at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, where I obtained certifications in Valuation of Hotel Investments and Hotel Asset Management. My education laid the foundation for a fulfilling career in the hospitality industry, where I have held leadership positions in some of the most distinguished hotels in the Netherlands.
Currently, I am the General Manager at Mövenpick Hotel Amsterdam City Centre and Vice President of Operations for Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts in the Netherlands. Over the past five years, I have had the privilege of overseeing three properties, including a 408-room flagship hotel in Amsterdam and a boutique property in The Hague. Managing these hotels has allowed me to hone my skills in hotel management, team leadership, and guest satisfaction.
Before my current role, I spent several years as General Manager at Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam, where I oversaw a luxurious 177-room property with a Michelin-starred restaurant and extensive historical significance. My experience also includes managing Novotel Amsterdam City, a 610-room hotel, and serving as Director of Operations for Economy Hotels Netherlands with AccorHotels, where I managed 15 hotels. Next to my daily work I volunteer as the Chairman of the association Luxury Hotels of Amsterdam, board member of my home town theatre and member of the board of “Friends of the OLVG” which is a good cause foundation for the larges hospital in Amsterdam.
Throughout my career, I have been dedicated to creating exceptional guest experiences while leading large teams and driving operational success. My key values are autonomy, diversity and integrity. I am passionate about coaching and developing talent, fostering a positive work environment, and ensuring high standards in service and hospitality. Every challenge in this industry has been an opportunity to grow, and I look forward to continuing this journey of excellence in hospitality management.
