Strategic Foresight

Strategic Foresight can be defined as ‘a systematic assessment of trends, issues, plans and projections’ with the objective of building strategic response capacity. The role of this research line at Hotelschool The Hague and in its Research Centre is to detect trends and developments that are, or will become of interest to hospitality professionals. The first objective is to provide insights to students and industry partners about these trends and developments. The second objective is to keep the research programme current by strategically selecting and developing new research lines.

Foresight studies at Hotelschool The Hague about the future of ‘home-sharing’ and Airbnb, that predicted a strong commercialisation with negative external effects for city residents before the platform’s nature had become manifest to most stakeholders, have drawn international attention. Other studies have explored the future of Online Travel Agents, of urban tourism in the context of the ‘Overtourism debate’ or of the impact of the Covid crisis on hospitality and travel.
