Improving the business
The third year is all about discovering what works in practice. You will be personally accountable for the daily operations of food & beverage and rooms division outlets. You will explore different leadership styles and learn how to motivate your team to deliver consistent excellency. ‘Action research’ is a key part of the curriculum in the third year. You will experiment with new products, services and technologies to test their impact on business operations. Also, you will understand how business strategies are being developed and transformed and how true innovation is being created,
Practical education | Managing an outlet (15 ECs)
In this course, Managing the Outlets (MO), you will learn how to manage resources, processes and people in the role of Outlet Manager. You will also further develop your leadership skills. Focusing on related theory, reflect, and prepare various course assignments This course will teach you how to lead and how to optimize your team’s performance. In addition, you will learn how to design, control, and improve organizational and hospitality business processes.
Hospitality Research Lab (15 ECs)
In this course, you are part of a hospitality consultancy team working on real-life practical problems or challenges in various outlets at school or industry partners. You apply research and operations management tools, analyse your findings and recommend research-based solutions to improve business processes in organisations where hospitality is the key differentiator.
Business Transformation 1 (13 ECs)
This course is delivered through a combination of masterclasses and hands-on workshops, covering key transformation domains such as Strategy, Finance, Digital Transformation, ESG, Marketing and related topics.
You learn how to critically analyse business performance from multiple perspectives and evaluate how organisations can become more resilient and adaptive in a rapidly changing environment. Working on a real-world case, you develop feasible business improvement or innovation initiatives and present your recommendations to a commissioner.
The course strongly supports the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, enabling you to make well-founded, evidence-based strategic decisions.
Business Transformation 2 (13 ECs)
In the second part of the course, you further develop, validate, and refine your recommendations, with a strong focus on feasibility, impact, and implementation.
You assess organisational readiness, risks, and success factors, translating your ideas into a coherent Business Transformation Plan. The course culminates in the presentation of your plan as an academic poster at the Business Transformation Fair, where you communicate your insights to both academic and professional audiences.
Business Inspiration Days (2 ECs)
This course runs in parallel with Business Transformation (BTR), allowing students to explore different companies within the primary, secondary and tertiary hospitality domain, applying the theories that are introduced in BTR to real-world situations. The course builds on industry knowledge and offers networking opportunities.
Personal Development III (2 ECs)
This portfolio-based course offers you tools to deal with adversity, to reflect on your learning and to prepare you for your graduation phase and your future professional life.
