Born in Hungary with a forward-looking mindset, Dr. Melinda Ratkai earned her PhD in SME Management and Economics from the University of Huelva in 2014, Spain, with a comprehensive academic background spanning Financial Economics, Operations and Business Management, and Strategy Building. Dr Ratkai's journey began working at different universities and hotel and tourism schools in Spain. Since 2019, she has redirected her expertise towards preparing the hospitality industry for the future, contributing to developing new multifaceted leaders who confidently manage both numerical details and regulatory compliance, showcasing a comprehensive skill set in financial and regulatory domains.

Currently serving as a lector at Hotelschool The Hague, she is dedicated to promoting corporate governance, sustainable finance and reporting. She believes complying with ESG reporting makes it possible to create a unified approach that maximises the impact of efforts in achieving broader objectives. This alignment ensures that every department becomes an integral part of the overall strategic framework, contributing directly to the success and growth of the business and world economy.

With over 10+ years of experience she brings a strong background in management economics, and digital accounting/finance. Her expertise lies in corporate sustainability reporting frameworks, actively preparing the hospitality industry for new reporting requirements and, consequently, a progressive paradigm of conducting business, which not only aligns with her passion for ethical and ESG-conscious practices but also attracts interest and potential investments from stakeholders who value sustainability in emerging business models.

"My main interest lies in business reporting, strategy building, and ethics, which are interconnected through their shared commitment to transparency, long-term value creation, risk management, stakeholder engagement, compliance, and the alignment of cultural and organisational values. This integration is essential for building sustainable and responsible businesses that contribute positively to the economy. Transparent reporting is an ethical practice demonstrating accountability and integrity in business operations. Ensuring ethical behaviour aligned with legal and regulatory requirements reduces the risk of legal issues and fosters a culture of integrity."
