Year 2
Running the business effectively
The adventure begins in the second year with a six-month internship in the real world. This is where you test your skills and develop your sense of independence and professionalism in a hospitality workplace.
Internship abroad | Practical placement (30 ECs)
Our students gain a great deal of knowledge during their first year, when being trained in various departments within Hotelschool The Hague, amongst which: Food & Beverage; Rooms Division; Kitchen; Reception and Housekeeping. In the second year, students are eager to extend their knowledge and gain greater insight into operational processes and learn how different departments within a hotel are connected.
During your practical placement, you work at an operational level in a full-service hotel or in a Michelin-starred restaurant (within a hotel) for at least 19 weeks. Your practical placement takes place in a country that cannot be considered to be your home country. This gives you the opportunity to expand your horizons with regards to different cultures.
Entrepreneurship (6 ECs)
The course offers a comprehensive exploration of startup and intrapreneurship, focusing on innovation and new business models. Participants gain the knowledge and skills to navigate the dynamic startup landscape, develop innovative ideas, create sustainable business models, and successfully launch and grow their ventures. Through interactive lessons, case studies, and practical exercises, this course provides a solid foundation for both aspiring entrepreneurs and those interested in driving innovation within organisations.
Finance II (5 ECs)
During the Finance 2 course, participants delve into topics that empower them to make informed financial decisions impacting the success of a business. Key areas of focus include financial statement analysis, capital budgeting techniques, risk assessment and management, and strategic financial planning. Participants gain proficiency in interpreting financial statements, evaluating investment opportunities, managing financial risks, and developing financial strategies to optimise company performance. Additionally, the course covers topics such as financial forecasting, working capital management, and capital structure decisions, equipping participants with the tools to make sound financial choices that drive the growth and profitability of an organisation.
Extended Data Analysis (3 ECs)
The aim of this course is to extend student understanding and application of both qualitative and quantitative research processes in the (hospitality) industry. In particular, students will focus on advanced research design, probability and non-probability sampling strategies, conducting & analysing qualitative research, conducting & analysing quantitative research by means of SPSS, and drawing conclusions from their inferential analyses.
Hotel Budget Plan (6 ECs)
This is a comprehensive and concise course designed to provide essential knowledge and skills to develop an operational business plan for a hotel. Through a combination of industry insights, strategic planning techniques, and financial analysis, participants learn to create a robust and actionable budget that aligns with the unique demands of the market. By integrating leadership development with business planning, this course equips participants with a well-rounded skillset to excel in the competitive hospitality industry.
Revenue Management & Commercial Strategy (5 ECs)
The Revenue Management and Commercial Strategy (RMCS) course is tailored specifically for the hospitality industry. In this course, participants gain in-depth knowledge and practical skills to optimise revenue, implement effective pricing strategies & commercial tactics, and develop comprehensive analytical skills to drive profitability and success in the dynamic and competitive hospitality market. Through a unique blend of gaming simulations, interactive workshops, and engaging lectures, our Revenue Management and Commercial Strategy course takes a hands-on approach to learning. Participants not only gain theoretical understanding, but also have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in practical scenarios, enabling them to make informed decisions.
Project Management (3 ECs)
In this course, students execute project management principles that facilitate the efficiency and effectiveness of a project. They also apply the soft skills required to implement a project positively, influencing all involved stakeholders.
Personal Development II (2 ECs)
The overall theme of tutoring and skills in year 2 is ‘pushing the boundaries’. In your second year, you go abroad for an internship of 19 weeks. During tutoring and skills, we prepare you for this internship. The focus is on teaching you skills such as resilience and cultural awareness.
