Year 3
Improving the business
The third year is about discovering what works in a business And, for this, ‘Action research’ plays a key part. You will experiment with new products, services and technologies to test their impact on business operations.
Practical education | Managing an outlet (15 ECs)
In this course you are personally accountable for the daily operations of the Food & Beverage or Rooms Division outlets. You lead first year students and, as such, you learn how to manage people, processes and resources. This course teaches you how to lead, trying out different styles of leadership, and how to optimise your team’s performance.
Hospitality Research Lab (15 ECs)
In this course, you are part of a hospitality consultancy team working on real-life practical problems or challenges in various outlets at school or industry partners. You apply research and operations management tools, analyse your findings and recommend research-based solutions to improve business processes in organisations where hospitality is the key differentiator.
Business Transformation 1 (13 ECs)
In this course you learn how to critically analyse the performance of a business from different perspectives. You learn how companies can become more resilient to a constantly changing environment. The course supports the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, enabling you to make well underpinned strategic choices.
Business Transformation 2 (13 ECs)
In the second part of this course, you further strengthen your recommendations and assess their potential implementation, presenting your Business Transformation Plan as an academic poster at the Business Transformation Fair at the end of the course.
Business Inspiration Days (2 ECs)
This course runs in parallel with Business Transformation (BTR), allowing students to explore different companies within the primary, secondary and tertiary hospitality domain, applying the theories that are introduced in BTR to real-world situations. The course builds on industry knowledge and offers networking opportunities.
