A home away from home – the Center Parcs room at Skotel The Hague
The Center Parcs room at Skotel The Hague has been renovated and redesigned. Are you curious about the connection between Center Parcs and Hotelschool The Hague, and the features and characteristics of the room? Senior Director of Development at Center Parcs, and alumnus Dim Hemeltjen, shared some insights into the collaboration with Hotelschool The Hague.
Skotel, managed by students, is the training and study hotel of Hotelschool The Hague. Guests are pleasantly surprised by the concept, which enriches their stay and transforms it into a delightful experience. During their first year, students work at Skotel where they develop practical skills within a real hotel learning environment, such as the hotel divisions reception and housekeeping – all under the supervision of experienced instructors. This approach prepares the students for a career in the hotel and hospitality industry.
Fifteen of 21 hotel rooms at Skotel The Hague are decorated by various well-known hotel chains, giving each room its own style, feel and experience. This special concept gives guests the opportunity to experience a unique stay every time they visit Skotel The Hague. For the students, it presents an opportunity to immerse themselves in the diverse design philosophies and service standards of different chains, deepening their understanding of the hospitality industry.
Center Parcs is a European network of holiday villages founded in The Netherlands in 1968. The idea behind Center Parcs is simple, yet fundamental: to bring people and nature together. The 27 villages are spread across The Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Germany – each unique due to their region.
A blend of Nature and Comfort
When it comes to designing hotel rooms, Center Parcs offers a unique blend of cosiness and functionality. Each room is designed to offer guests a comfortable yet practical retreat. From a good bed with a VIP topper to small desks for working and a comfortable chair for guests to relax and watch TV, every element is thoughtfully curated. An open wardrobe adds space to the room and prevents guests from leaving things behind when they check out.
Senior Director of Development at Center Parcs, and alumnus Dim Hemeltjen, shares his thoughts on the hotel room. “The total design is in line with our brand values: truly connect to nature. You see this not only in the room itself, but also in the shower,” says Hemeltjen.
Describing the desired guest experience, Hemeltjen explains, “A home away from home, close to nature, secure and relaxing.” This underlines the essence of Center Parcs’ hospitality approach emphasising comfort and natural elements.
