Read here about the PD journeys of Dana Jiménez Herrera and Klaas Koerten
In November 2024, Dana Jiménez Herrera and Klaas Koerten began their Professional Doctorate journey at Hotelschool The Hague. Their programme combines coursework, hands-on industry projects, and applied research to address real-world challenges in hospitality. Collaborating with expert faculty and industry leaders, they will develop innovative strategies to enhance service quality, boost employee engagement, and optimise operations, driving meaningful change in the sector.

Hospitality Resilience
Redefining and Developing Resilient Strategies for the Gen Z Workforce
Dana’s research focuses on strengthening resilience among Gen Z employees in hospitality. Born between 1996 and 2010, Gen Z often faces high stress, anxiety, and burnout, impacting their resilience. At the same time, the industry relies on resilient staff to thrive in demanding environments.
This study explores Gen Z’s expectations of leadership and their contributions to the sector, offering insights to create supportive workplaces that enhance well-being, resilience, and productivity.

Improving job quality in physically demanding jobs
Application of technological innovation in housekeeping
Housekeeping is one of the most physically demanding roles in the hospitality industry, often leading to back and shoulder pain for long-term workers. Despite this, the sector has seen little innovation in the past 40 years to reduce the physical strain on employees. Klaas’ Professional Doctorate focuses on alleviating the physical demands of housekeeping through technological solutions, such as the use of robotics.
