Experiencing + key takeaways ITB Berlin 2024

What to expect during ITB, the most important and largest conference in travel and tourism?

The conference has been held since 1966, and brings together key travel leaders, buyers and exhibitors from MICE, Corporate, Leisure and Travel & Technology. Their motto "Pioneer the Transition in Travel & Tourism. Together." represents Hotelschool The Hague’s ambitions. This year, we are especially proud of our colleague Prof. Karoline Wiegerink who was selected as a member of the Board of Experts at the ITB conference.

At the Hospitality track, in the so-called Bleu Room, a pool of experts from hospitality businesses, science and politics discussed new concepts and strategies for the current and future travel industry.

“The hospitality track breathed life into contemporary topics for the hotel industry. With 7 inspirational sessions, 25 speakers and panelists and almost 600 attendees at the stage it was a great experience. ITB Berlin is definitely your way to everything you need to know when you are working in the hospitality and tourism industry. I am truly honoured to compile the programme for this stage.”

During the session, called Well-being Unveiled, Dr. Valentina Clergue, Assistant Professor of Marketing at EHL Hospitality Business School and Yasemin Oruc MSc. MBA, Senior Lecturer Hospitality Marketing & Innovation and Research Fellow City Hospitality at HTH explored the pivotal role of ‘well-being’ in designing authentic hospitality journeys for all stakeholders involved. They shared thoughts on how to prioritise well-being that fuels resilience and sustainability in the industry, fostering environments that nurture humans' vitality and curate meaningful, transformative hospitality experiences for all stakeholders involved.

Key takeaway: How to shift focus from mere 'time well spent' to ‘time well invested’, crafting journeys that truly transform.

"Creating environments that foster mindfulness and promote holistic well-being to result in Total Human Hospitality Experiences that matter, that is our mission."

Dr. Alexander Lennart Schmidt, Professor of Technological Innovation at HTH, hosted the session called "From Insights to Delight: Transforming Hotel Guest Journeys through Data" with the guests Ulrich Pillau, Founder & CEO Apaleo; Eva Klausner, Director of Guest Experience at numa Group; Ron Sandel, Business Unit Manager at Airbnb; and Thomas Zaufal, Technical Owner at citizenM.

"ITB 2024 has been an extraordinary milestone for us at Hotelschool The Hague. Together with our valued partners from academia and industry, we ventured into the future of hospitality, examining transformative technologies that promise to redefine our industry. The keynote speakers and panelists not only underscored the importance of innovation but also highlighted our role as educators in facilitating the next generation of leaders."
