The 2nd International Research Symposium brings the hospitality industry and academia together

With more than 300 attendees from all around the world, the 2nd International Research Symposium was an inspiration for the hospitality industry and academia.

The 2 days event was a fantastic opportunity to attend a live digital interaction between eight different professionals from the industry and academia, about the theme of Business resilience in hospitality. This event brought researchers and practitioners together to discuss issues around the same topic, while bridging the gap between academic research and professional practice.
The interactive format of this online event was striking: live discussions, coffee corners and breakout rooms where attendees could exchange ideas and reflect on the topics discussed during the main sessions were organised and welcomed by all.

The first discussion welcomed Petra de Ruiter (Transavia) and Brian King (The Hong Kong Polytechnic University) to discuss the future of travel. Through an inspiring discussion, the two speakers discussed how they envision the re-opening of tourism and the lessons to be learnt from the Asian experience.

During the second discussion of the day, Tim Davis (PACE Dimensions) and Jeroen Oskam (Hotelschool The Hague) discussed the most likely scenarios out of this crisis, including uncertainties and possible outcomes.

The day started with a very interesting discussion between Dimitrios Buhalis (Bournemouth University Business School) and Bernardo Cabot (Meliá Hotels International), who explained how China is recovering from the pandemic, from a hospitality industry point of view.Check out the full discussion (30 min): https://youtu.be/YKa_-4S3yPw

The following discussion was related to the future of hospitality profession, and invited Tom Baum (University of Strathclyde) and Caro Eekelen to discuss their perspective on the topic, as the crisis will probably change the way we work for years to come.

The event ended with a very special session, the Editor’s session. It was particularly interesting, as it gathered five editors from top hospitality journals in one single session. They shared tips and tricks on how to publish in their respective journals, and discussed the relevance of the content for both academia and industry.
