Top 5 Christmas markets to visit in The Netherlands

It's that time of the year again! Christmas markets in The Netherlands are a great opportunity to get yourself into the spirit, have mulled wine or a hot chocolate, and walk around the decorated streets. With many events and activities being canceled this season, we have found the best Christmas markets across the country where you can find your favorite spot for the holidays!

Due to the COVID-19 measures in place, please visit the official websites of the markets for any updates. As of 28 November, all non-essential shops, attractions establishments close at 17:00, and thus, this measure applies to the Christmas Markets below.

Valkenburg Christmas market (12 November - 9 January)

Located in the Limburg province, Valkenburg has been awarded as one of the best “European City of Christmas” back in 2018. Christmas Town Valkenburg is completely wrapped in the Christmas spirit. Enjoy the many festive lights, music, and tasty treats, above- and underground (don't miss the Christmas caves)!

Magical Maastricht (27 November 27 - 2 January)

The Magical Maastricht returns to the Vrijthof square. From 27 November, The city center is covered in atmospheric Christmas decorations and the Vrijthof will be transformed into a large winter village. Combine the Sint Servatius bridge as well and immerse yourself in the Christmas spirit!

Christmas market in Deventer (9-19 December)

If you are looking for a more traditional and authentic Christmas activity, then visit the Dickens Festival in Deventer. Travel back in time and experience a Victorian-era re-enactment with many people in traditional costumes. You can also visit the Christmas market in the city which is full of fairy lights, carol singers and musicians!

Ice Village Amsterdam (15-16 December)

The Ice Village is known for the wonderful combination of skating and shopping in a magical winter landscape in Museumplein, Amsterdam. Take your skates, grab a hot chocolate from the stalls, where you can also find last-minute Christmas gifts!

Christmas Winter Fair, Amsterdam Rai (19 December – 3 January)

From 19 December, the RAI Amsterdam will once again be transformed into the ultimate Christmas experience. 3400m² full of snow activities, music, and fun! What you can expect? Snow activities, ice-skating, DJs, a Ferris wheel!
