1970 - 1989
In 1970, Mr Overwater, French Lecturer, had new plans for managing HTH. Those plans were realised in that year. In 1971, Mr Rogge, Dr E. Th. Cassee, Mr van Eeghen, Mr Pieters and Mr Schuit became the new HTH Governors. Mr A. Mostert started working on a new timetable; introducing semesters. This meant that students were now able to start the course every half year. In 1971, Mr W. Verschoor was chosen as the new Director of Hotelschool The Hague.
After three years, in 1974, Dr E. Th. Cassee became the new President of HTH. Soon thoughts of change and improvement grew, and a foundation was laid for a modern Management Course. Dr E. Th. Cassee was the President of Hotelschool The Hague for 25 years.
In 1976, HTH changed to an ‘Internationally Operating Institute’. The core activities during this time were a diploma course in Hotel Management, a one-year management course, a summer course for foreign students and trainings for the (inter)national hospitality industry.
The retirement of Queen Juliana, who was succeeded by her daughter Beatrix marked the start of the 80s. HTH was experiencing many changes and developments. 1984, a new curriculum was introduced. That allowed to intake of 120 students per semester, instead of 72 students.
On top of that, ‘Training and Consultancy’ was founded as the introduction the first summer course. In 1986, HTH grew from 400 to 900 students and its name was changed from Hogere Hotelschool to Hotelschool Den Haag (The Hague). HTH also introduced the first edition of the ‘Outdoor programme’, which students still participate to this day. The programme was created to take students out of their comfort zone and to discover their leadership style whilst developing their leadership skills.
1989; the year of the fall of the Berlin wall and HTH introduced the English version of the Diploma Course European Hospitality.
